John R. Russell spent fourteen years as in-house counsel for Providence Life Services, a faith based not for profit health care provider focusing on housing and health care services for seniors. In this role,┬áMr. Russell helped Providence manage the regulatory compliance of its facilities and provider groups in the areas of tax exemption; labor and employment; administrative and regulatory compliance; reimbursement; fraud and abuse; involuntary discharge proceedings; resident/facility contracting; Physician and other third party provider agreements; HIPAA regulations and compliance; survey and certification; accounts receivable collection, and risk management. While working for Providence, he represented long-term care facilities; CCRCs; sheltered care (independent living) facilities; assisted living facilities; home health agencies, and community based services providers. His experience ranges from defending these kinds of health care providers before Federal and State Administrative Agencies for license or survey violations, to assisting with the day to day management of a provider’s corporate, regulatory, or employment related matters. He has also represented nurses and nurse aides regarding certification/licensing issues, and has represented medical billing companies.
